MoSVY Sec. State: People with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities Should Participate in Forming Multi-Sectoral Solutions

PHNOM PENH: Secretary of State for the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY), Em Chan Makara, has said that although many achievements have been made in the disability sector here in Cambodia, there are still a number of challenges that need to be addressed by all stakeholders.

The Secretary of State made this statement at the opening ceremony of the National Workshop on “Workplan Development to Support Persons with Autism in Cambodia" on Monday, 24 April 2023, at the Himawari Hotel.

He noted that the employment of persons with disabilities in both the public and private sectors continues to increase every year, and disability data and disability-related testimonials also become clearer and more comparable for realistic policy making.

He emphasized that many achievements have been made thanks to the active participation of all stakeholders within the disability sector and in other areas as well, especially from representatives of persons with disabilities and their families. However, he said that many still face a number of challenges, especially those who are visually impaired, autistic or have intellectual disabilities, and everyone’s collective participation will be required to address these challenges and formulate multi-sectoral solutions.

The MoSVY Secretary of State added that this workshop is another new opportunity to meet and discuss the current situation of autism in Cambodia in order to develop a specific action plan to provide support and address existing challenges.
